As the new year begins, there’s often a mix of excitement and hesitation in the air. You might feel inspired by fresh goals, new ideas and a deep desire to help more people with your wellbeing services. And yet… alongside that excitement, there can be overwhelm, self-doubt and that familiar question:
“Where do I even start?”
If you’re self-employed in the wellbeing industry, you’re not alone. Many brilliant practitioners hold back not because they lack skills or passion, but because putting themselves “out there” feels daunting. When fear creeps in, it’s easy to procrastinate, overthink or distract ourselves by signing up for yet another course instead of taking action on what we already have.
At Work Well, we believe that confidence doesn’t come from doing more, it comes from doing things with clarity and intention.
Let’s talk about how to set goals that feel supportive rather than overwhelming and how to share your services in a way that feels aligned, achievable and empowering.

Why Goal Setting Can Feel So Hard
When we don’t have a clear plan, everything feels big. Big goals lead to big pressure. Big pressure often leads to… no movement at all.
Instead of taking the next step, we pause. We wait until we feel “ready.” We convince ourselves we need more training, more knowledge, more reassurance. But often, what we really need is focus and simplicity.
Strategic goal setting helps you break things down so you can move forward calmly, confidently and consistently.
A Gentler Way to Set Goals (That Actually Gets Results)
Here are some simple, easy-to-implement tips to help you stop the overwhelm and start sharing your services with confidence.
1. Choose One Core Offering to Focus On
Instead of trying to promote everything you do, choose one service to lead with.
Ask yourself:
What do I most enjoy delivering?
What do people already respond well to?
What feels most aligned right now?
This doesn’t mean you can’t offer other things, it just gives your energy and messaging a clear direction. One clear offer is far more powerful (and less scary) than lots of vague ones.
2. Turn Your Big Goal Into a Small, Friendly Plan
Rather than saying:
“I need more clients this year”
Try breaking it down into something manageable:
This month: clearly define my service
This week: write a simple description of who it’s for
Today: share one post or message about it
Small steps create momentum. Momentum builds confidence.
3. Get Clear on How You Help (In Simple Language)
You don’t need fancy wording or industry jargon. Clarity is what helps people say yes.
Try this simple formula:
“I help [who you help] with [the problem] so they can [the outcome].”
When you understand your offer clearly, it becomes much easier to talk about it and much less daunting to share.
4. Share Before You Feel “Ready”
Confidence doesn’t arrive first, it grows through action.
You don’t need to shout or sell aggressively. Start gently:
Talk about why you love what you do
Share a client win or insight
Explain who your service is for and how it helps
Each time you share, you’re building trust; with your audience and with yourself.
5. Stop Booking Courses When Fear Shows Up
This one’s important.
If you notice that every time you feel unsure, you sign up for another course, pause and ask:
Am I learning… or avoiding?
Instead of adding more information, take time to:
Map out what you already offer
Create a simple plan
Ask for accountability and support
Growth doesn’t always come from more learning, often it comes from doing.
6. Let People Know You’re Open and Available
It might sound obvious, but many people don’t book simply because they don’t realise you’re offering something right now.
Be clear. Be consistent. Be kind to yourself. You are not being pushy, you’re giving people the opportunity to work with you.
You Don’t Have to Do This Alone
At Work Well, we support self-employed wellbeing practitioners with community, accountability and inspiration because building a business should feel nourishing, not draining.
You already have something valuable to offer. Your goals don’t need to feel heavy. And you are allowed to take up space with your work.
This year, let’s set goals that feel supportive, take small confident steps and share your services with clarity and belief.
Your people are out there, they just need to know how you can help 💛
